Sport England’s programme Sportsmatch has opened for applications today.

The Sportsmatch programme matches sponsorship that has been given to community sports organisations by companies, trusts, charities, or private individuals in order to fund projects that promote new participation at grassroots level. For example, if a business gives £1,000 in sponsorship to its local rugby club to organise coaching in local schools, Sportsmatch could match that with £1,000 of government money.

The minimum award is £1,000 and the maximum is £100,000.

Sportsmatch supports formally constituted not-for-profit organisations and statutory bodies. This might include sports clubs, voluntary organisations, local authorities, schools, universities or national governing bodies of sport.

Sponsorship contributions can be either cash or in-kind, but in-kind sponsorship cannot consist of more than 50% of your total sponsorship amount. Projects can be supported by a maximum of five sponsors.

Applications should be for projects that will be delivered in the 2010/11 financial year.
